How Much Should An Engagement Ring Cost?

I hear a lot of men ask how  much should I spend on an engagement ring or how much does an average engagement ring cost. The answer is simple.

Spend what you are comfortable with. If you go to a jewelry store the salesman will ussually try and tell you that you should spend 2 to 3 moths salary on an engagement ring. I really see no logic in this. Here’s why..

If you spend the time to research diamonds a bit and also if you shop around a bit to find the best price on an engagement ring then you are sure to find a great ring at a price you feel comfortable with. So to answer your question there is no set amount you should spend on an engagement ring.

The only thing I can tell you is that the average engagement ring is 1 carat in size.  Now, not all 1 carat engagement rings cost the same. Diamonds with higher quality will cost more than lower quality ones, platinum or 18 K gold rings will cost more than 14 k gold and you will also pay more for the same ring at your local jewelry store than at a reputable online wholesale dealer in engagement rings.

Asscher Cut Engagement Ring – Very Good Choice Find Out Why

The Asscher cut was first used in the early nineteen hundreds by the Asscher brothers. It was a favorite for a long time and then newer cuts came along and the Asscher cut lost some ground. These days the Asscher cut is as popular as always because lets me honest, it is a beautiful cut and makes for a great engagement ring.

Make sure you buy from a comany that has certified diamonds and especially certified by the GIA (Gemological Institute Of America) These diamonds are inspected one by one and issued a certificate by the GIA which is an independent company. This way you will know that your diamond is the real deal and the certificate also makes it worth more.

Cushion Cut Engagement Rings Are a Beautiful and Elegant Choice

A lot of thought and careful consideration should go into choosing an engagement ring. It is something you should only buy once and it should last for generations. If your future wife is someone who likes traditional style and an antique look, cushion cut engagement rings would be the perfect match.

Cushion cut diamonds are also known as pillow cut. The overall shape of this type of stone would be square or slightly rectangular and they get their name because of the rounded corners and softer edges of this style. This style is very traditional and became popular in the late 1800s. Part of the popularity at the time was due to the fact that famous diamonds of the day such as the Hope diamond were cut in this style.

Cushion cut engagement rings have 60 facets which is significantly fewer than more modern styles such as the brilliant cut or the princess cut which has 76 facets. The fewer number of facets gives the stones a little less sparkle and brilliance than more contemporary designs but many people will prefer a more traditional style with softer, rounded edges as opposed to sharper edges and angular cuts of the more contemporary styles.

The larger facets allow you to see into the diamond so it’s important to select a stone that is as free of inclusions and color as possible.
